Why is it unfortunate living in Singapore for you right now? Is it a cluttered kind of busy place?

There are some languages, like Arabic and Latin, which I literally like so much that I can spend the entire day studying without the least trace of boredom or fatigue…if nothing interfers

This is the first lecture of yours that I have listened to. I now want to go back and listen to all of them. Some of the stuff is basic (some of the time management), but it is good to hear other people say it so that you get a reinforcement or refresher of the material. A great point you mentioned about not only breaking up the time, but also mixing up the materials at each sitting. Thoroughly enjoyed this lecture.

Hello,
I just wanted to know when and how you started with these kind of habits, related to language learning or not.. I’m a 16 year old in high school and I feel like I need to up my game if I want to get the most out of my education.. but I’m finding it difficult to shift my habits of procrastination and the like :P
Thanks :)

I wish you would have shared your experience in terms of how long on average it does take a language learner to be conversational in a foreign language, realistic goal setting should be an important part of time management in my opinion.

37:22 scared the life out of me

@BrokenClocks08 I am so sorry about that. I don’t know how or why that loud burst of static got into the audio, nor do I know how to get rid of it, but I have now put an annotation in the video to warn listeners that it is coming.

@BobtheMoneythedbr More than anything else, it is the weather. I am just not cut out to live in a tropical climate. I yearn to experience the change of the seasons again. My favorite season is winter (oh how I miss snow!). Fall and spring have their charms as well, but summer is only to be endured. Here on the equator, however, it is summer all year round…

@goaliejr Although I was a good student when I was 16, I did not consciously begin trying to inculcate systematic and disciplined study habits until I was a college sophomore, so I suppose I was about 19.

@mednos There is no simple and universally applicable average answer that I can give, so I already plan on treating the topic “how long does it take to learn a language?” in depth in an upcoming lecture.
